Don’t Let Negativity Get In The Way of Your Restaurant Startup
You will be faced with negativity during your startup journey, not everything will go the way we want it to. How you react during difficult times has a lot to do with your business mindset. If you have a negative mindset, it’s very difficult to improve anything. But a positive mindset will help you overcome difficult situations or people.
When I failed in my first restaurant/catering business I embraced it, learned from it and didn’t allow any negative thoughts to prevent me from continuing my dream. I gave it another try and this time it was a success and I have been in my own businesses for almost 30 years.
If you want to know how to turn a negative business experience into a successful one, check out the resources and information on startyourrestaurantbusiness.com but for now here are a few tips to help you maintain a positive mindset during the difficult times as you start your restaurant.
Surround Yourself With Positive People
If you surround yourself with positive people, then their positive energy will often rub off on you. Unfortunately, negative people’s negativity also rubs off.
It’s not the easiest thing to do but removing negative people or situations from your life. Trust me it will greatly improve your business owner mindset. When you maintain a positive attitude, you are less likely to completely lose sight of your goals when you are faced with a difficult situation as you plan and develop your restaurant startup.
After experiencing a failure, not only did I start another business I moved out of state to start it. Talk about a difficult situation. Most family and friends thought I was crazy and some even had the audacity to say “oh you’ll back” they had no faith in me and had not probably told me to my face.
I know without a doubt that distancing myself from that negativity had a tremendous impact on my life both personally and professionally. I went on to start a successful catering and delivery service to the business community in Clearwater Florida. We sold it some years later which allowed me to invest and start another business. If I had let those family and friends influence my mindset, I wouldn’t have been able to separate myself from negativity and negative people. Once I did that, I was able to handle many situations in my personal and professional life.
Always have a detailed startup plan. Any time you have a detailed plan you will recover from negative experiences much faster than you would if you were just winging it.
With a research plan mapped out, you know what you need to do to get from startup to Grand opening your restaurant’s doors. When the going gets rough, a lack of direction can not only stall your progress but also lead to a complete disaster.
Creating a detailed plan helped me reach all my startup goals, whether those goals included choosing my cuisine, finding my ideal customer, and finding the right location or launching an attractive theme. commerce brand in a week. A good way to map out your startup goals is to purchase my Successful 7 Step Plan. I didn’t let negativity get me down. Instead, I turned used a positive mindset to move forward.
I created SYRB (startyourrestaurantbusiness.com) after helping others who wanted to get in the industry. What really inspired me was the experience I had with a former employee that worked for me in my business Corporate Catering. She called and asked if I would be interested in helping her start her cafe and would pay me to work side by side guiding her through the beginning and stay on until she felt comfortable with taking full control. From that experience, I created informational resources to show how it’s possible to be successful in one of the most difficult industry.
I didn’t want to see my former employee fail in her first startup (the way I did) and I certainly didn’t want her to give up on her dream of being a restaurant entrepreneur. She played a major role in my businesses success and now had also played a role inspiring me to develop SYRB. It is amazing how having positive people in your life with determination can set you on a path to success.
Regardless of how passionate an entrepreneur can be and should be, negativity can put doubt in your mind. The last thing you want to do is give up or admit that your restaurant idea doesn’t have a chance.
Helping others not to experience failure and keeping negativity out of their startups is my mission!
My positive takeaway after failing in my first food business was that I enjoyed being an owner regardless of the outcome. It was that satisfaction that made me determined to give it another go. I turned my first failure into something I loved. Something negative into something positive. All because of my desire to be a successful restaurant entrepreneur.
During my next venture, I researched, I planned and chronologically put into motion a startup process that was instrumental in my success. The resources I used for my startups have positively directed my restaurant career, but have also helped others.
