What Amount Of Efforts Are You Willing To Put Into Your Restaurant?

The hard truth is the success of a restaurant is dependent on the efforts you are willing to put into it.

It is very important that you have stamina, willingness to work long hours, ability to resolve conflict, and attention to detail and knowledge of legal issues regarding employee wages, worker safety, and consumer protection.

Restaurant owners have a variety of duties such as hiring and firing staff, bookkeeping, cooking, waiting tables, and addressing customer complaints.

The best way to figure out if you have what it takes to be a restaurant owner is to work in one!

Don’t worry about obtaining a culinary degree it isn’t a prerequisite for becoming a restaurant owner.

At the minimum, a high school diploma can help or completing a certification program in hospitality or restaurant management or culinary arts is also helpful.

I did not have culinary schooling but I did have 6 years of working in the industry at different kitchen and management positions before starting my first food business.

My first business Josies Catering and Delicatessen in Rochester NY named in honor of my Mom.

Prior experience working in the foodservice industry is beneficial!

By starting out as part of the kitchen staff, waiting tables or being a counter attendant, you gain the necessary training needed for owning a restaurant.

Many startups go out of business in a short period of time simply because owners didn’t put the effort and time into doing all the right things from the beginning.

Some startups may fail because the owner’s skill sets were not a good match for the skills needed to start and run a restaurant or they just didn’t have enough experience or didn’t hire enough experienced employees to start and run a restaurant.

Regardless of all the requirements that are needed, it’s important to talk to experts, people who can answer the questions and concerns you have. You’re taking on a life-changing career move, you need experience, more importantly, you need advice and guidance from those who have a successful track record in the industry.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics put out a statistic that the annual salary for restaurant owners and operators was $76,340. If this entices you, keep in mind starting any business venture isn’t something you can do without the help especially if you’ve never done it before.

No restaurant is guaranteed to succeed, but the chances that it will be lucrative and that you will become a successful restaurant owner increase when you take into account some very important steps that must be done at the very beginning of your startup and if you are ready to put in the effort and what it will take.

Successful restaurant ownership is not just good food alone. It’s about making smart business decisions at the startup phase.

Many first-time restaurant startup entrepreneurs only concern themselves with their start-up costs and place less emphasis on what role and part as an owner they will have.
