Co-Founders and Co-CEO’s of the Veggie Grill Kevin Boylan and T.K. Pillan, started the Veggie Grill because they became frustrated with trying to find delicious, convenient food that they could feel good about eating.

Boylan- lost 25 pounds after becoming a vegetarian.

When Los Angeles investors T.K. Pillan and Kevin Boylan scouted locations for their new crossover vegetarian restaurant, they immediately broke out the pushpins and a map of Orange County.

Tacks marked retail centers with a Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods Market. Those shoppers, they believe, will embrace The Veggie Grill, a fast-casual eatery serving meatless meals under the guise of popular American fare such as jerk chicken, Philly cheese steak and Reuben sandwiches.

But, instead of using mushy tofu, Veggie Grill dishes are made with savory meat substitutes that mimic the texture and taste of favorite comfort foods.

The thought of vegetarian food might make you think bland, tasteless, and not fulfilling but The Veggie Grill will make your taste buds think differently.

They did a lot of research and discovered how “delicious veggie protein specialties could be when prepared with the right marinades and sauces,”Pillan says.

Once they realized how good their menu selections could taste and the benefits of plant-based foods, their passion turned into a reality and a casual dining concept was born.

The Menu

All of their menu items are free of meat, dairy, eggs, saturated animal fat, cholesterol, antibiotics and trans fat.

Their Chickin’ and Veggie-Steak proteins, are produced by GARDEINTM,(Gardein a portmanteau of garden and protein is a product line of animal meat-free foods made by Garden Protein International) and are prepared from the best organic or non-GMO soybeans, wheat and peas wherever possible.

 The hearty proteins contain ancient grains, specially seasoned and marinated, and are jam packed with nutrients and fiber.

Their super grains are a whole-grain blend of millet, buckwheat, quinoa, and brown rice, and naturally gluten-free.

They offer gluten-, soy- and nut-free options but are extremely patron”health conscious,” making their guests aware that all of their food may be made on equipment or prepared in areas containing gluten, soy, and nuts.

I’m all about theme and menu creation and they are killing it in both those areas!

Grilled Portobello Skewers-Tamari-marinated, chargrilled porto planks, bed of quinoa pilaf, Mediterranean cucumber + tomato salad, tzatziki sauce, grilled lavash.

“Love that porto plank look and sound”-how could you resist it if you’re a Fungi Lover…marinate sounds mouthwatering and how about the accompaniment selection of sides that come along with it.

Sandwiches are served on a wheat bun with a choice of Yukon Gold fries, chili or coleslaw.

Bali Bliss 
Organic tempeh, lettuce, tomato, red onion,
chipotle ranch. Blackened or Buffalo-style
upon request. 

Using the word Bliss to describe a sandwich is so perfect for the concept and Bali adds a cultural flavor and flare as well. 

If you’re a food lover you have to admit food can do that to you (takes one to know one)! If you’re a fan of Buffalo Style this will satisfy your craving for heat and fire.
